Overview

The four-day ICSOBA 2025 conference in Nanning concluded successfully on Friday, October 31, following field visits to the Guangxi Branch of Chinalco alumina refinery and to Guangxi Hualei New Material aluminium smelter.

This year’s conference breaks another all-time record, with 664 participants from around the world—602 attending onsite and 62 joining online.

We are particularly proud of the robust program offered, the high-quality conference facilities even though we experienced unexpected live streaming issues mainly caused by the internet local context.

For the next four weeks, a complete set of conference materials, including the TRAVAUX Book No. 54, presentations, recorded sessions, and sponsor and exhibitor documents, will remain accessible for registered participants on the Whova platform. As
always, all papers published in the TRAVAUX book are available on the ICSOBA website at https://icsoba.org/proceedings/

Once again, the forum underscored ICSOBA’s value as a unique platform for technological knowledge sharing within the industry.

This year’s ICSOBA Conference in Nanning, Guangxi, could not be more timely. Guangxi is endowed with rich bauxite resources and has established a complete and modern aluminium industrial chain. The city of Nanning is actively advancing its vision of becoming a “Green Aluminium Capital.” Through the ICSOBA platform, we look forward to in-depth dialogue and cooperation with our international colleagues – exploring new opportunities in low-carbon smelting, efficient resource utilization, and circular economy development. Together, we will drive the sustainable transformation of the global aluminium industry.
About ICSOBA Presidents

International Forum on Comprehensive Utilization of Bauxite Residue

The International Forum on Comprehensive Utilization of Bauxite Residue is an international conference jointly organised by the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA) and the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), with support from the Aluminum Corporation of China (CHINALCO) and Rio Tinto Group (RT).

The forum serves as an unparalleled platform for global knowledge exchange, bringing together world-leading experts, innovative practitioners, policy makers and industry leaders to foster collaboration and accelerate practical solutions. Delegates will have the opportunity to engage directly with pioneering research entities from both China – the global leader in bauxite residue innovation – and international counterparts who offer valuable insights and experiences from diverse geographical contexts. By attending, participants will play a crucial role in shaping international strategies and partnerships aimed at significantly reducing bauxite residue generation, enhancing sustainable remediation practices, unlocking commercial opportunities in construction and metal extraction, and ultimately driving the industry toward a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
