1st Bayer and 2nd Aluminium Electrolysis Courses

Two courses were held at the Marriot Hotel in Lyon from 24 to 26 October 2024, jsut before the ICSOBA conference.

For the first time in ICSOBA history, Bayer Process Course was organized to give participants the essential understanding of bauxites, methods and equipment for their mining, theoretical overview of the Bayer process, current technology and equipment to produce alumina, as well as practical aspects of alumina production from leading experts of the industry. 14 teachers from leading aluminium companies of the world, gave their knowledge and expericenc to the students. 23 participants from 9 countries took advantage of the Course.

An Aluminium Electrolysis Course was organized for the second time, following the successful 2023 course, with the aim to increase participants’ comprehensive understanding of the electrolysis process and give an overview of the state-of- the-art of aluminium production was attended by 38 participants from 14 countries.

The courses provided a unique opportunity to learn from experts in the field about both theoretical and practical aspects of the Bayer and electrolysis processes, respectfully.

Surveys were conducted at the end of the course and 88 / 64% of the participants rated the overall experience as very good and 12 / 26% as excellent, respectively. In the surveys we received many suggestions and feedback. Some of the comments were:
