The International Committee for Study of Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium (ICSOBA) has the great honour to announce the 40th International Conference and Exhibition of ICSOBA, that will take place from 10 to 14 October 2022.
This will be the second time ICSOBA will take place in Athens and the third time in Greece.
The conference is planned to allow hybrid audience, with the in-person part to be held in Athens, Greece and the online part as real-time broadcasting for the delegates that cannot attend in-person. However, all ICSOBA presenters will travel to Athens to deliver their presentation physically.
We are monitoring the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Greece and globally as well as the geopolitical context and may adjust the event format accordingly.
We look forward to see you all at ICSOBA-2022!
Most of the essential details about the event can be found in the 2nd Circular:
ICSOBA, in its vision and commitment to cooperate with other conferences and better serve the aluminium industry, is also happy to join forces with the:
ICSOBA 2022 will explore the following key issues:
Primary focus is on sustainable development and reducing carbon footprint.
Do not miss the opportunity to interact with international experts, scientists, engineers, technology suppliers, equipment manufacturers and representatives of worldwide aluminium industry.
The hybrid format of the conference will enable your participation irrespectively if you travel to Athens or have to stay at home. The difference between on-site and online participation is:
In addition to publication in regular conference proceedings, all ICSOBA authors will be invited to submit their manuscripts to a topical collection in the Journal of Sustainable Metallurgy (JSM): https://www.springer.com/journal/40831 dedicated to publishing the high-quality ICSOBA papers. With a 2020 impact factor of 2.35, JSM ensures high visibility for the research results presented at ICSOBA. Only the papers meeting the journal scope will be considered for peer review and publication. The publication in this journal will be free to authors unless they choose to publish Open Access: https://www.springernature.com/gp/open-research/policies/journal-policies/.
Journal scopes are given further as a guideline for authors willing to prepare their manuscript accordingly.
Journal Aims and Scope:
Journal of Sustainable Metallurgy is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to presenting metallurgical processes and related research aimed at improving the sustainability of metal-producing industries, with a particular emphasis on materials recovery, reuse, and recycling. Its editorial scope encompasses new techniques, as well as optimization of existing processes, including utilization, treatment, and management of metallurgically generated residues. Articles on non-technical barriers and drivers that can affect sustainability will also be considered.
The journal aspires to contribute to advancing the science but also to be a catalyst for tangible change toward more sustainable practices in the metallurgical industrial sector.
Presentations will be held in English. All papers and presentations in English will be published and downloadable from ICSOBA website in pdf format. The papers will be indexed in platforms such as Google Scholar and ResearchGate. The printed proceedings book (TRAVAUX, Vol. 51) will be available after the conference as an option.
The latest technologies, equipment and other devices for the aluminium industry will be exhibited during the conference.
A dedicated floor has been reserved for 14 tables. As the number of exhibit tables is limited, we will accept reservations on a first-come, first-served basis. Further info will follow. The reservation process is managed by ConfTool,

Exhibitors will be able to upload the brochure and video on the Conference Application – Whova – which enables connection with on-site and online participants.
